The Karnataka govt, which had announced English for LKG classes, has now directed that an Urdu-English bilingual medium be introduced in schools across the state
From the academic year 2026–27, bilingual classes will be introduced in all government schools across 15 districts of the state. While the government had earlier announced that English would be introduced in LKG classes, a fresh directive now states that an Urdu-English bilingual medium will also be introduced in schools that have already received departmental approval for bilingual education. These schools
have been instructed to implement the bilingual teaching system from this academic year itself.
This decision aims to strengthen students’ English communication skills while continuing education in regional languages. Teachers have already undergone special training to effectively implement the bilingual teaching system in classrooms.
Under this new initiative, English lessons will begin from LKG, enabling children in government schools to gain confidence in speaking and understanding English from an early age. Parents are encouraged to enrol their children in government schools, where quality education is provided free of cost. Admissions for the new academic year have already begun
