The UP government may implement a major scheme before the assembly elections to secure the women’s vote bank. Under this, women will be provided financial assistance of ₹50-50,000.
The first installment of ₹20,000 will be given before the elections. After the elections, if the BJP government is formed, 3 installments of ₹10,000 will be given. Deliberations on the scheme have begun in the government.
Government will woo women before elections
The Yogi government has started preparations for the assembly elections. Amid the Gen-Z movement, the government is considering a major scheme to secure the women’s vote bank. A scheme is being considered for women’s assistance, self-employment, and economic self-reliance.
The scheme will be proposed through the Women Welfare Department. Under the scheme, consideration is being given to providing financial assistance of ₹50,000 to women.
Priority to women from families below poverty line
The government will prioritize women from SC, ST families along with women from BPL families and women from economically weaker families in the scheme. This may include women from families whose income does not exceed ₹12 lakh.
The scheme will be a gamechanger
Government sources believe that the cash incentive scheme for women could prove to be a game-changer in the assembly elections.
Such a scheme was first implemented in Madhya Pradesh, then in Maharashtra and Bihar assembly elections. Due to those schemes, BJP governments were formed there.
- In Madhya Pradesh, under the Ladli Behna Yojana, eligible women are given ₹1,500 every month.
- In Maharashtra, under the Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, women aged 21 to 65 years are given ₹1,500 every month.
- In Haryana, under the Deendayal Lado Lakshmi Yojana, women are given ₹2,100 every month.
- In Bihar, before the Assembly elections, the Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme was launched. Under this, ₹10-10,000 were given to women’s accounts.
BJP’s focus on women and elderly
Just before the UP Assembly elections, the Yogi government is going to provide major relief to more than 1.18 crore pension beneficiaries. This includes the elderly, widows, destitute women, and persons with disabilities. The government is going to increase their pension schemes by ₹500 every month.
Apart from this, a provision of ₹400 crore has also been made for distributing scooters to meritorious girl students.
Girl students from families with an annual income of up to ₹12 lakh will get a helmet along with the scooter, 4 liters of petrol, free registration, and insurance.
