Engineering student dies by suicide in Chintamani

Chintamani: A second-year engineering student studying in the Electronics and Communication (EC) department at Visvesvaraya Technical College allegedly died by suicide late on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Rakesh (21), a resident of Hebbal in Mysuru. He was staying at a BCM hostel near Chinnasandra while pursuing his studies.

According to police, Rakesh reportedly came out of the hostel around midnight on Saturday and allegedly hanged himself from a tree behind the hostel building. The exact reason for the incident is not yet known.

A case has been registered at Chintamani Rural Police Station and police officers visited the hospital and collected information from the student’s classmates as part of the investigation.

After receiving information about the incident, District In-charge Minister Dr. M. C. Sudhakar visited the Chintamani hospital and gathered details from police officials and the deceased student’s classmates.

“An unnatural death case has been registered regarding the engineering student’s suicide. The exact reason for the incident is not known yet. The cause will be known after investigation,” Chintamani Rural Police Station CPI Shivaraj said.
