Himachal Rains: In the latest update from Himachal Pradesh, Dharampur town in Mandi district was severely hit by heavy rainfall on Monday, leading to major destruction. Three people were dead, and two others were rescued after a landslide occurred in the Nihri area of Mandi district. Debris from an adjoining cliff slid onto a house, causing it to collapse. Rescue teams rushed to the spot, and operations are still underway.

Overnight downpours triggered flash floods that swept away multiple vehicles, including several buses at the Dharampur bus stand. Debris has choked key areas, adding to the chaos. Currently, three national highways remain closed, and traffic has been disrupted on at least 493 roads across the state.
The monsoon has caused unprecedented damage in Himachal. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), since June 20, 404 people have died, including 229 in rain-related incidents and 175 in road accidents.

The SDMA report highlights that rain-related fatalities were primarily caused by landslides, flash floods, drowning, lightning, electrocution, and house collapses. In the last 24 hours alone, 647 roads, 343 water supply schemes, and 185 electricity distribution transformers were reported disrupted.
Road accidents have also claimed lives across the state: 24 people each died in Mandi and Solan, 22 in Chamba, and 21 in Kangra. Authorities note that the spike in accidents is due to slippery roads, blocked highways, and unstable slopes during the monsoon.
In addition to the tragic loss of life, the SDMA estimates the total economic loss so far at Rs 4,489 crore, including damage to roads, water systems, electricity infrastructure, and private property.
